A Sipahijola wildlife sanctuary is a place reserved for wild animals and birds. A Wildlife Sanctuary is also a refuge for injured animals. After treated they are released but they can stay there if they had injuries which could be dangerous for them if they stayed out in the wild again. This sanctuary plays the most important part of preserving endangered species and rare species.

Sipahijola Wildlife Sanctuary, situated in the northeast Indian state of Tripura, is a scenic woodland, adorned with beautiful artificial lakes. Natural botanical, as well as zoological gardens, are there in the sanctuary. A vast variety of birds, primates and other faunal species are the inhabitants of the sanctuary.


red-pandaIt encompasses an area of about 18.53 square kilometres. Lush greenery embellishes the terrains of sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary all round the year. This region enjoys weather throughout the year however during summer in the months of March and April the weather is quite humid.

The sanctuary has been established in the year 1972. It has been categorized into five sections namely primates, carnivores, ungulates, reptiles and aviary. sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary is the home to around 150 species of birds. The unique bespectacled monkey called Phayre’s Langur is a major attraction of the sanctuary.

Five species of primates have been recorded here including Spectacled Langur, Capped langur, Pigtailed Macaque, Macaque and Rhesus. Rare faunal species called Crab-Eating Mongoose has also been revived in this forest. sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary has been established with the dual aim of creating a wildlife sanctuary as well as the academic research centre.

sepahijala wildlife sanctuaryDuring winters, the sanctuary welcomes a number of migratory birds which arrive from distant countries. sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary hosts a number of lakes. Amongst all Amrit Sagar and Abasarika lakes provide boating facilities. A forest bungalow provides comfortable accommodation to the tourists which are situated near the zoo and the botanical garden.  

Sipahijola Wildlife Sanctuary is a forest area with a blend of artificial lake, zoological and botanical gardens and the number of wild creatures. The green territory of Sipahijola spreads over 19 km areas. The bush of this sanctuary is a residence of 150 types of avifauna.

Out of many amazing flying creatures, openly charged stork, white ibis and shrieking blue-green are some of the normal birds that will amaze your presence to a great extent. You can visit Sipahijola Wildlife Sanctuary through the year depending on your convenience.

wildlife sanctuaryHowever, the best time to explore the transitory creatures is during the winter season. Visiting this place from November to January will not only feel you an amiable winter here, but the long trekking will not make feel you weary as well. The Zoo is a good 3-4 km from the entrance. The Zoo covers a large area.

It takes a lot of time to cover each enclosure. The animals are kept in a spacious enclosure. Animals found here are the clouded leopard, jungle fowl, civets, barking deer,  leopards, wild pigs, elephants, Himalayan black bears, rhesus, macaque, pig-tailed macaque, capped langur, spectacled monkey, slow loris, monitor lizards, python, rhino, hog deer etc. There are a lot of avian species in the Zoo and even in the wild. It made the wings loud flapping sound as it takes off. The lake in the sanctuary is also home to water birds like the stork, whistling teal and white ibis.

The sanctuary provides boating facility at the lake. It is famous for its clouded leopard enclosure. The sanctuary has a variety of birds, primates, and other animals. The green terrain is throughout the year and the weather is temperate except for the two humid summer months of March and April.
